(Sierra Creek Habitat Preserve Area,
Antelope has a short but fascinating past. Established in the mid 1800's by Chinese immigrants who worked on the railroad, it didn't last long as a town, when the immigrants moved to Roseville to establish that city Antelope then became a place rather than a town. In 1973, Antelope was quite small - a few homes, a post office and general store. Then, a rail car loaded with aircraft bombs exploded obliterating Antelope. In the late 1990's, the rail yard was taken over by Union Pacific who decided to do a major renovation. However, they found a large amount of unexploded bombs. They detonated the bombs, flying fragments into Citrus Heights, and finally completed the renovation with no more bombs found. Still not a large community, in 1993, Antelope wanted to be established as community, with county recognition and zip code. In 1994 that occurred. Since its illustrious but condensed past, Antelope's population has exceeded 36,000 people. Antelope has many beautiful parks, great schools, and many different events and activities. There are many organizations including a Mom's group, Motorcycle Club, and Sierra Foothills Rose Society. Antelope is a lovely place to live and close enough to be able to work in Sacramento (18 miles) and surrounding cities (5 miles to Roseville).
