El Dorado County is also located in the Gold Country of California in the Sierra Nevada. The county seat is Placerville. El Dorado County, with a population over 180,000, has a western border that touches the California's Central Valley. The eastern boundary meets Nevada high in the Sierra Nevada mountains overlooking Lake Tahoe. El Dorado County stretches across 90 miles of valleys, mountain peaks, and foothills. There are two incorporated cities: Placerville, and South Lake Tahoe which is the hub of the world renowned Lake Tahoe recreation area. These towns have a population over 10,000: El Dorado Hills, and Cameron Park. Towns with less than 10,000 people include: Camino, Cool, Diamond Springs, El Dorado, Garden Valley, Georgetown, Grizzly Flats, Happy Valley, Mt. Aukum, Outingdale, Pollock Pines, Shingle Springs, Somerset, and Twin Bridges. The crime rate in El Dorado county is relatively low against people and property. There is not much ethnic diversity within El Dorado county with a population that is 94% caucasian, and 6% minorities. Visitors to El Dorado county have a plethora of activities and experiences.
